Teak comes from the monsoon forests in the region of Laos, Myanmar (formerly Burma) and Thailand. Its extreme durability was recognised by shipbuilders centuries ago and in order to meet the increased demand for the wood, forests were planted in Africa, South America and other South-East Asian counties. Burmese teak is the common term for teak grown indigenously, and this wood has superior qualities when compared to teak from other regions.
